After building and testing a conventional 620 kHz Tesla coil using two different transformers ( oil buring transformer and Neon sign transformer) and a spark gap last year, I am on my way to build a high frequency SSTC using a design I found on line, please see below

Link2

So far I have only bulit the frist three stages , the push pull tarnsistor combination ( ZTX450 and 550) included. I am getting a 4 MhZ pulsed oscillations abut its shape is weird and has lots of ringing. With a 12 volts supply, I don't understand why am I getting 15 Volts p-p. Also will the odd shape of the pulse with all the ringing affect the rest of the circuit or not. See the attached picture. Will appreciate your feedback.

Interesting circuit. You might want to change the value of the capacitor leading to the push -pull transitors to get rid of the ripples. It hopefully will not affect the rest of the circuit operation.

Richie Burnett's coil was the first working Class E tesla coil, but there are now a few other Class E circuits that may be easier to get working. Maybe you could look at the coils from Matt Bingham and Waverider. Rather than the three discrete stages they use gate driver chips for easier driving, and I think they also use feedback rather than a fixed frequency.

Your waveforms don't look too bad yet, keeping adding stages. Further down the page Richie has shown a gate waveform, which isn't very different from yours. Link2 At 4MHz good gate drive is a luxury. That coil isn't a soft newbie coil, so you're in for some troubleshooting. wink
