So self inductance is where a the coils own field interacts with its own coils which causes distortions in the mag field. Inductive reactance is when the eddy currents inside a coil produce a current in the opposite direction of current flow? Do I have this right?

Reactance is NOT the same thing as inductance. Inductance is the ratio between induced voltage and ratio of variation of current. Self-inductance, or just inductance, if in the same coil, mutual inductance if in two coils. Reactance is the ratio between voltage and current amplitudes, for sinusoidal signals at steady state.
