Hi, i have few questions ...

first. I have High Voltage PS completed, but it have only half - milimeter sparks... will it be enough to power tesla coil?
it has very high internal resistance... (for now)

My tc is on left :)

second. How many volts it is if it sparks like that? I want to build MMC, and i dont know for what voltage i must build it for

THANKS FOR ANSWERS

It can be pretty hard to get a spark gap coil working efficiently at only 0.5-1kV primary voltage. The spark gap must be very small. If your power supply is AC, I would suggest to put a some kind of CW multiplier with a limiting resistor to get the voltage higher (at least 4-5kV)

As I already said, the voltage is approximately 0.5kV-1kV assuming air dielectric strength is 1kV/mm.

i only managed a very tiny spark length from the top of my tc ran from a 10kv flyback. However the increase in frequency (i assume it was because of this) caused an interesting effect where the whole output wire would 'glow'. I found it difficult to set up my spark gap reliably even at this voltage.
With 1/20th of the voltage i doubt it would do much more then light a neon directly connected to it

i build smaller one, from injection (that thing with which doctors take you blood, but not nail... sorry for my english : )

i post photos as soon as i get it to PC, sparks are 1cm long (longest was somwhere about 1.2 cm)... i have only DC voltage... i have generator 700V and multiplier 10x, but i think it is not working at 10x, because i could get longer spark at spark gap... but it works and i am happy :)

and with that damn multiplier frequency rapidly decreased to somwhere about 2-3Hz (not khz)

so, is there some chance to have better voltage? (something with that resistor between 700V trafo and multiplier) ???

btw, i had some mmc builded time ago, it was on 6KV, so i used that one, it was from PSU PC
now i have job to run the bigger one :)

this is my small tc, as i posted before...

now i want to run my bigger TC? i have all done from schematics at http://rayer.ic.cz/teslatr/sstc.htm
Tcshem

but i have only 20V power supply, which seems cant get 1A at 20V... it is sucking too much A (2-3 i think, but when i turn ot on, Ameter cant view it) and i dont know why... what can i do? Thanks for all answers
