A Few Final Questions about a SGTC

I have a few questions about my tesla coil im building.

First off, how close should the resonant frequency of the secondary to primary be? Is a difference of a couple kHz acceptable? What is the general idea on that?

Second, when I wound my secondary a few years back, I made the Plexiglas tube a little short, so the bottom of the secondary winding is below the primary, is that an issue? Check out the pics below.

Ummmm. . .
For the first, I don't really know.
With a SGTC, as long as you are kinda close to what your Teslamap calculations show, you can tune in better performance after you get it up and running.
It's not like a DRSSTC where slight miscalculations will cause expensive explosions.

For the second, You can always raise the secondary up an inch or two if you need to.

I guess as long as you start out with lower input to the tank with your variac, and watched for racing arcs you'd see how far up you'd need to raise it, if at all. I used a clear cd case and stacked it on the top of my primary supports to achieve a little hight on my first secondary to get it to work, and then I got an idea of how much room to leave myself with subsequent secondary coils.

Im guessing that a little bit of height is probably a good thing? Il probably just making something again out of wood to bring it up an inch or two.

on the first q as long as you are somewhere near it will work. almost impossable to get it that close in pratice anyway. if you tune it with a scope you will see the tuning point moving about all over the place.
Q2 i would start with it higher and bring it down after you have tuned to max spark. if you try and do it the other way round you will get racing arcs,which could be over coupling or bad tuning.
