Yup.
But this is the lit tube (10ma tube current) with an NIB magnet above it, giving a spiral effect. These are large tubes, so they only get slightly warm running this way for a few minutes.

Brings back memories of me making a strobe out of a flash unit about 30 years ago. I used it to clip on my belt while marathon training at night. I must have used a smaller cap and a neon to trigger an SCR or something. I have a vague recollection of it lasting about half to 1 hour on Nicads but it wasn't really long enough for a reasonable run (my best effort 100 miles training in 1 week). In the pre-LED days that was all you had plus reflective gear. Can't run to save myself now though.... Need wheels.
