I thought about that, but then I'm losing 20% or more output power from my co2 laser. I need 30 Volts. I'll probably end up cobbling together a linear (HEAVY!) supply. Anyone make a LM style regulator that can handle 20 amps or do I have to use a bunch of 5 amp regulators?

Does it have to be so much regulated? Really I would just rewind a MOT (shunts removed), rectify it and filter with big filter caps. If the laser draws steady current then you could design it to output 30V loaded (it would probably be a few V more unloaded)
