i made a capacitor bank with 98 camera capacitors and i am planning to charge it to 2.2kv with a flyback now my question is when i monitor the voltage of the capacitors will the meter read the voltage in the caps or the voltage coming from the flyback?

I recently did this, i hooked up a flyback to a photo capacitor and charged it. On the other end i hooked up a small pocket volt meter and the voltage went up 3v or 4v at a time until it reached 330v or the capacitors max voltage.
So if you hook it up to the capacitors it will measure the voltage of the capacitors. Do not try to measure the voltage coming straight from the flyback, i did this and my $50 voltmeter had a stroke (From which it never recovered).
This is how i measure voltage and it always works for me, just try to hook up the volt meter away from where the flyback leads are connect (I don't know if this helps but i am just paranoid after what happened to my old voltmeter so i take any precaution).

Its going to read whatever voltage the capacitors are charged up to, which yes, will be less than the flyback output when you first start charging the capacitors.

thanks for the advice guys that just saved me a lot of work getting my dmm to read high voltages
edit: i tried it like that and it seems that it is reading the voltage coming out of the power supply not in the caps and i dont want to blow my $70 bench dmm.
