Was wondering if anyone has ever made a solid state powered twin coil(180*)? Or tube coil for that matter. Would be interesting to see.

Sure. I've done a couple and Steve Ward has done some twin coils as well. He has some videos on his website of this i think.

As far as twin vacuum tubes coils, not sure.

I made a twin DRSSTC that only had one primary. The second resonator was just base driven by the base current of the first one. It worked fine and gave about 3ft of sparks, but suffered badly from flashovers between primary and secondary. It would flash over whenever an arc connected between the two toploads.

I tried fitting a sphere gap between the secondary bases and ground to limit the voltage, but somehow when this gap fired, it caused a big EMP that sent all my driver electronics crazy.

Thats all really cool. I guess what I was really after was those small coils that produce the straight bolts of discharge. I was curious to see what those would like like arcing between a twin setup. I have never really looked much into solid state coils, perhaps its just tube coils that make that kinda discharge. For simplicity, I have only ever built spark gap powered coils, but maybe some time in the future I'll build a solid state one.
