Hi, Did anyone use the IR2109 half-bridge driver instead of a gate drive transformer ? With how much success ?
Would there be a big difference if I use a GDT instead of this chip ? Maybe better waveforms ?
Thanks !
Ben

That chip is worthless for driving the loads typically seen in solid state Tesla coils. It can drive 125mA-250mA max current. The drivers typically used are 9A output such as in the UCC3232x chips.
When evaluating a gate driver, you need to look at either the output current capability or output resistance of the driver.

ok, thanks !
That's probably the reason why my induction heater isn't that efficient and my Tesla coil doesn't really output something... I'll try with a GDT and UCCs.
