i have 8, 3nf 35kvdc caps that are from a retired tesla coil and i was wondering if they can be used in a 8 stage marx generator along with some 1mohm 1 watt resistors to get a reasonable output. this is my 1st marx generator im building so i dont really know how it will work or if it will even work at all. it is going to be charged with a dc flyback and and i am sure there is going to be flaws in the design but that is what i have you guys for

Use lots of 1W'ers in series to lower the voltage each individual resistor has to stand, for 35kV no less than 6 normal 1W's should suffice. I used 3x 330K 1W carbon resistors in series, wrapped in heat-shrink. They seem to have held up fine so far in a ~10kV system, and these are normal 500V resistors.

that is also what I did but I put solder blobs in the little loops for the spark gaps and then potted the whole thing in wax except for the gaps
