Not all of the power is going through the transformer, most of it comes directly from mains.

To Arcstarter and many of the others, please just don't give an answer without giving any reasoning how you came to that answer. Your answer is also incorrect, see NeilThomas' post, it explains it all.

Apparently this is creating much of confusion. Nobody of you guys thinking otherwise has anything to comment on the simulation I posted?
At full load of 11 amps 230V out, input current is 10 amps, flowing through 23V secondary, and and amp through the primary which sum to 11 amps - conservation of energy works pretty well as far as I see.

It is true that transformer is processing only 230W at full load, while total output power is 2530W. I don't see anything wrong about it.


The circuit is really just an autotransformer, and yes, it is the trait of autotransformer, at least as far as I know, that core doesn't need to handle all the output power like a fully isolated transformer needs to.

Actually, if I had a ''1:1'' autotransformer, the power processed by the transformer would be 0! Only small magnetizing current would flow in the winding, since output and input are shorted.

The shown circuit could be thought as pretty close to that state.
