Hey guys! New here, though a long time lurker! I was thinking id like to get into HV abit more. The main problem i have is i have no suitable power supply. I was thinking a NST would be my best bet, but since i'm a auzzie, i cant really just go down to the local dump and a whole pile of NST's will be there. I have had 2 NST's, but neither have worked well. I was thinking of buying a new one, or a fully working second hand one atleast. Anyone in AU have any expeience with buying NST's? Price? Do they even sell them to you?
Any help is appreciated!

They take a bit of tracking down to find someone who sells them, but just start ringing
around electrical supplies, and if they don't sell them ask if they know who does.
I bought a 15kV60mA brand new for about $170.

Thanks for the reply! So i guess i'll get out the phone book and ring around. What do you think is the MAX price i should pay for a NST? 15kv @ 30ma would suit me OK, but if they dont have 15kv, 12kv or 10kv would be OK too.

w00t, i went out to a sign place today, the first one i went to had them. They are the F.A.R.T brand, and is rated for 7.500V each secondary winding. Took it home, wired it up, and got huge fat orange humming arcs, pretty sweet! I am waiting for some welding wire to make a nice big jacobs ladder, as i dont have the supplies for a telsa coil yet.

Instead of using welding wire you could use Co-tanger wire. The straight bits are best. Also useful for replacement car aerials for bogons tongue

Coming from Cairns I guess "Aussie" is spelt instead to rhyme with mozzie...

A bit of local vernacular for you foreigners.

Have fun with HV. At least you don't have to look after your remaining eye unlike your other hobby.
