Hello gents,

Been a little while since I posted anything. Anyways, I finally rebuilt the electronics and got a good looking stand for the coil, yet I once again have the issue of the drive transformer for the fets squelling Due to not recieving a high enough frequency, but the only things I changed on the system was the fets and changed out the antenna for CT and a 2.2k resistor, a new 10ohm resistor for a fet, and put it allon a new board. I checked 555 interuptor signal and it looks good, checked teh schmidt inverter and its working fine, and the mosfet drivers are doing good. after spending a bit of time trying to figure out the problem and getting nowhere, I noticed the heatsinks for the fets were rather warm, they are not the CPu heatsinks anymore. So I'm wondering should I change the 2.2K Ct resistor to say 10k or some other value, or could something else be causing the problem, and I made sure all connections were good.

First of all it's spelled "squealing". Is it squealing or hissing? Also which SSTC circuit are you using, one of Steve Ward's?

2.2k might be loading your CT down too much, try 10k. You say the heatsinks were a little warm, so the coil was actually running fine and not exploding? This would mean it's getting feedback, and the problem is elsewhere. How many turns do you have on the GDT?

Yes, It's Steve's Mini coil. I don't really know if you could call it "running" when I wasn't even getting any discharge. The GDT is prefab that I used on the old circuit board, it's a 1.0:1.5:1.5 turn ratio, heres the pdf Link2

No discharge, then it might be feedback after all. Have you done some troubleshooting, i.e. changed back to antenna feedback, etc?

Yep, I switched one at a time, The primary wires, the CT wires, removed the CT and used a simple antenna, used a antenna and a CT, then i combined other wire swapping combinations, and still nothing.

That's really odd, and you had the same problem before with your first build? I'm tempted to blame the GDT you're using. Why not try a homemade one, they tend to be much better than the commercial ones.

No, I had this problem with the old board due to not recieving the RF frequency, since one of the feedback wires was shorted to ground, but after I fixed the wire the coil ran fine, but this time every thing I have tried fails to start the coil.

i am having the exact same problem with that coil to and i have yet to get it to work the only thing i can suspect that could be wrong with mine and maybe it is on yours to is that the primary is not right up against the secondary but other than that i also followed the schemattic to the T so i will also keep an eye on this post. shades

The startup of that circuit doesn't look super reliable, maybe throw in a start-up oscillator like he used in his Micro SSTC. Link2

Yea I could, but the old coil would start up instantly, when both powers were applied.
