sstc mosfet driver help

today i built steve wards micro sstc driver Link2 and used a ucc37321 as a fet driver chip and i only am getting 1/2v p/p on the output pulse and it is not inough to trigger the irf260 mosfet that i am using. also when i connect the primary it is dead shorting so im not sure if the mosfet is blown or im just not getting inough voltage to the gate to trigger it.

it seems to me that your mosfet is dead and is shorting out both the gate driver and the power supply. check with ohmmeter

im not able to get any sort of reading with a meter either because there is absolutely almost no resistence or over 20mohms of resistence so i swapped out the mosfet but i still am getting a direct short and my mosfet is heating up so im going to check my wireing and than see what happens

I never got the Micro SSTC circuit working... Probably it was just my bad luck frown I was also having the same problem that you have, the fet was always on. I also thought that the fet was bad, but it wasn't. The gate driver wasn't bad, either. IMO, it would be alot better to put a 74HC14 inverter port before the ucc input. This could buffer the feedback signal better. Gate drive chips don't seem to like to have their inputs floating. PLL is also a great circuit and works pretty well even with low powers and a single fet.
Some more specs about your coil would be helpful.

Hi guys
The problem you have is that you use an inverting drive chip. In the first moment you apply voltage to the coil, the antenna can't peek up a feedback signal to start the oscillation, and the drive chip goes to high output - therefore schorting the supply. I have the same exact coil, and have the exact same problem. I have to touch the antenna with my fingers a few times to get it going (and yes i have a start-up oscillator). If you wan't to stop schorting your power supply use a non-inverting drive chip. Sorry for the english.
