So i made my first testings using my vacuumtube induction heater as RF supply. Just to see if i can get some resonance there. And I did..it works just great! This vttc differs a little compared to common vttc design. First of all, primary current is very high, >50Amps. So copperpipe coils are required and also heavy duty tank capacitors. (Still, that copperpipe gets so hot that soldering TIN melts on it!). So, this one has low impedance primary coil..low voltage and high current. Resonant freq is around 600kHz.
Anyway, spark length exceeds the length of secondary coil..And so far I havent done any fine tunings here. Primary coil is two turns of 5mm diam. copper wire. But let's see it in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYfZbeYyI70
I think coupling is good, plates are slightly dull red after few seconds of running as it should be. I will try to make some fine tuning to get even longer sparks..
