I would get Silicone HV putty so you can reuse the caps later. GC chemicals sells a wad of it in their product line. I'd have a picture for you but its all packed up in storage right now.
If you don't want to buy the putty you could always melt some wax on the terminal too, which is pretty good for a temporary potting.

eeek.. thats not a good idea. IIRC silicone emits acetic acid which would probably muck things up. However the aquarium sealant is IIRC acetone cure (acetone rapidly evaporates so is not an issue)
I did find something interesting called "Moon Sand" which I am going to test as a removeable replacement for wax, it seems to be good so far. It is about £3.75 for 100 grams which is enough for a small multiplier.
If anyone would like some (as my HV lab is in the process of being reconstructed) I can send a few tubs.
