First: Hola! Im new here, but dont worry, ive looked thru the board, and couldnt find a thread that seemed to answer my questions.

Ive tried the schematic shown on penguinslab.com (which atm seems to be down?), but.. I cant make it "run".
I can get a nice spark at about 60kV, but it wont run.. It seems like the MOSFET stay on the On-state when i apply power (12V), and only drops to 0 when i turn it off.

So basicly i can only make it spark when i apply power and remove it right after.

Its a basic build with a 555 oscillating and driving a power MOSFET, but something seems to be wrong - but i cant figure out what.

Im using an oil-free ignition coil - could that be problem?
If any of you have a working schematic, then feel free to post it.

Thanks.

I used the zvs flyback driver to do it

It works better if you use a higher input voltage

Sounds like the oscillator is busted. Did you use a socket for the 555 IC or did you solder to it directly? Heat kills ICs, maybe the 555 is broken. And make sure you soldered everything correctly, of course.

CompWiz --> Got a link for that? ^^

Firnaqzen --> I use a test-board. As far as i can see, the 555 is working just fine.
With an oscilloscope i can see the cycle, and i can change the duty cycle too (pot meter).
At the output from the MOSFET, it swaps between 1½-12V - i have no idea why i wont go all the way to 0.

When it arcs, i get some noise on the ground - approx 500V peaks.

What about thyristor driver? Works pretty well and is simple, maybe you should try it smile Here's my driver - Link2

Looks nice c4r0, but i more need a circuit for 12V only. Gonna power it from a car battery.
Any thyristors you can recommend?

I also have a flyback somewhere, but i have no idea how to connect the pins on it - it got aroundd 18 pins or so, alligned in a U-shape.

Your original schematic tends to work very well; I would at least get it working since you are already mostly done. That way you can see if it at least satisfies your needs. If its not powerful enough, then start working on a new driver.

I dont care if i have to build a new circuit - as long as get something to work ;)

But testing the 555 alone shows that it works fine, but with the power transistor on, it seems to disburb it someway.

It suddenly struck me, that adding a BC547 to take some load off the 555, might solve the problem. What do you guys think?

That could do the job, or use a totem pole and a mosfet: for an example look here: Link2

i had the same problem.i tried numerous different circuits and made them each up to 10 times and it neer worked.i got it now but i dont know how
