as my first audio modulated high voltage device i decided to build Link2 schematic Link2 but when i powered it up nothing happened. After reading i realised that the pwm chip needs a high input to have any output so instead of making an amp first i hooked a function generator to the audio imput and with proper tuning i achieved this. i still dident think that i was getting a proper signal so than i was told that you should recieve a signal without any input from my function generator similar to a 555 but i couldent get anything and i have gone over the schematic and connections and it doesent seem like anything is wrong and i am completely stumped.

The data sheet for the SG3525 says it needs 40V input, the schematic is saying 15V.
Don't know if that has anything to do with it?

By the way, very cool vid Jan, the audio clarity it awesome!

15V supply is fine.
Teslacoolguy, I think you get it wrong- the way it should work is that the input audio should MODULATE the pulse width. You will not see anything with input signal of the same frequency as the carrier one. Try much lower input freq. in the audio range, you should see the pulse getting blurred as the pulse width varies to the input signal.

And do you get a pulse with no input signal? You should get approx. 20% duty cycle pulse with no input audio. Check this and tune the duty cycle pot if necessary.

no i do not get any output from the pwm chip and now it gets warm with no input on the audio so i am starting to think it is a mistake i made on my part when i built the circut i must have screwed something up so i am going to check that out before i try to test any further.

I had this exact same problem. Could not get any audio output, unless I dropped the M-S ratio (below 10%), all but killing the output & causing severe distortion.
Got much better results, using FM modulation - sharper, more detailed sound (using the TL494 PWM IC).
Problems also, making a decent earth-return electrode - can increase the current, till the plasma glows white, but the high frequency response of the audio really suffers, as well as melting the electrode :)

i was bored so i carefully went over the everything one more time and found a critical error with one of the resistors so if i get time i will fix it tonight and than try it again
