This reminded me one my successful experiment with running a fly-back straight from 12VDC. I used the small ferrite toroid transformer which is in every PC power supply. I connected one of the fat wires (low nr. of turns) in series with a single FET switch and one of the thin wires (high nr. of turns) straight to the internal primary of the fly-back. It worked very well; I could make 4 cm sparks from the fly-back. The circuit was very simple and the current limiter was the 220V/12V transformer. For the battery use it would have to be solved differently (maybe half bridge based on BUZ11, maybe even single IXDD414 could make the same job??) I think I'll give a try to the whole concept...

Do you remember Philer experiments from the old forum? Here
He went up to 3 flybacks in serie, but some problems with the third driver, so i suppose that 4 flybacks will be a challenge.
