According to my ruler it makes about 110KV!

I used two 10KV 1nF caps per stage

I only have 10 stages so far.

Next time I must eliminate the sharp edges!
the whole room smelled like ozone in 30 seconds, before i covered it with liquid electrical tape.

It took me forever to it firing reliably, until i noticed that my battery was dead.

I also learned that I'm not good at soldering.

How do i stop the negative pin of the flyback from arcing to the core?
it keeps doing it then the switch shocks my finger!!

Very Nice! Well done!

To stop the negative arcing to the core, you could always connect it to the core, or ground it, whichever suits.

Keep up the good work!

I had the core-arcing problem when I started pushing too much voltage into my ZVS driver. My solution, indeed the solution to all of life's problems, was to pot the whole thing in epoxy.

More Pics!
and I added more stages!

grounding the 0v pin made it WAY worse (my finger still hurts)

If you look at it in the dark the cornea is skinny at bottom and HUGE at the top.
its not bright enough to get a good pic even with a 30secound exposure.

Florescent lights glow if I touch them wile I'm stand by it.

Its a good thing I got small caps because my friend stuck his hand in the discharge...

Ill post more pics when I get them off the camera

I don't know why people think tires protect you from lightning...

Nice Job.

And the tires protecting you, no, its the car acting as the path of least resistance, that's what is protecting you. So you don't get out of the car if there is a power line or lightning striking the car. The instant you do your body becomes a power resistor, not a very plesant thought.

That is one of the resisters I used for my marx connected right to the flyback

What's the official stage count now?

Your Marx generator is really cool though. There's ALOT of corona being generated - I would consider encasing it in transformer oil.

There are 17 stages now.

It will jump about 20cm

The corona is fun to watch in the dark
it looks like lightning going in every direction.

Its arcing around a CD case in the last pic

I just bought some more caps off of ebay! Link2
15kv 2200pf

Even with 170kv the sparks seem to small...
so I will build Marx II

I forgot that putting caps is series reduces the capacitance, that is why my sparks are so skinny.

I think I will use the same kind of resistors because they they haven't shone any problems yet.
