IMHO the council can STFU; since when should they have any right to control what YOU build on YOUR land? Pah, I hate people.

I hope he defends the place with his life. That must be what the cannons are for.

Well, planning laws are there for a reason. For example, you wouldn't want someone to build a pig-farm or commercial establishment next to your house, would you? Of course, those people are idiots for allowing a 40 foot hay wall around the property in the first place. Thats worst than the house that was built there.

I was thinking the same thing; for 4 years a 40 foot hay stack bothers no one, but an awesome-looking house pisses them off.

The person they quoted seems to be more in it for spite, saying something like "well I have to obey laws so should he". While the house will probably increase his property values...

While I was living in Riverside it wasn't uncommon to see hay bails stacked that high, but it was under a protective shelter. If you guys lived near places with a lot of cattle you'd see the same things.

He really should have gotten permission. It's difficult to fight the government and expect to win. I agree that you should be able to do what you want with your land, unfortunately these are the days where everyone else controls what you can and can't do.

I think prison time for doing these things is totally outrageous, so I guess all one can do is stay tuned and see if he has friends in high places.

True, but that's covered by commercial / industrial / residential zoning. Regulation for the sake of regulation, or decades of overwhelming stupidity on the part of local government, results in these situations. How dare councils pretend to be surprised when someone builds a residence on their residential plot.

Which is the strangely ironic part of all of this... as Shaun outlines. :P
