 		Last night was just playing around with some old high voltage stuff, and decided to SUPERSIZE my minicoil. The following circuit puts a DC bias voltage on the RF ground of the secondary making for a very spectacular output.

During normal operation, the arcs of my 4kV/20mA minicoil appear like that of a 4kV/20mA spark gap coil. But use a grounded stick to pull an arc and you draw an amazingly super loud, high current thick nasty arc. Very cool and powerful demonstration, especially if you can hide the additional circuit under an enclosure and just have the minicoil in view.

DISCLAIMER: This circuit is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND ABSOLUTELY LETHAL should you contact the output arc. The schematic is included for informational purposes only!!!

So you put HVDC at base of secondary so you can fire it when sparks ionise air.

How did you build the 100kV 10nF cap, it seems to be only problematic thing here..?

 		The 100kV capacitor i used was a Maxwell 100kV 0.01uF x-ray capacitor i have.

 		I've also tried it something like that some time ago, but I used an AC flyback, which is much safer, and also didn't use a cap etc. I just plugged it in series with the secondary.

Or see capacitor made of plastic plates, there is a topic on this forum...

I dont see why one would need 50Js to see results...I would still be inclined to take some of those 40kv 2200pF ceramics i see pop up on ebay and try it out.
