Hi, I started building a coil a few years back. All I ended up doing was winding the secondary coil. So now its been 3 years or so and I forgot how many turns are on the primary! I really dont want to count each turn by turn, but if it comes down to it I will.
I was thinking that I could find the resistance of a 1' piece, then take the resistance of the primary and divide by the resistance of the 1'piece, which would give me the length if the wire. Then I would take that and divide by the circumference of the pipe its on.
Thats all fine and dandy, but I dont think my meter will be very accurate, its just a hand held fluke multimeter.

Divide the hight of your coil by the thickness of your wire. That's far more accurate than resistance measurements unless you have some super hi-tech ohm-meter...
BTW: There is no need to know the number of turns exactly.
