Despite what you might like to believe, national news outlets don't just run any video they get their paws on. I'm sure they checked out the story before running it. If it is a fake, its one hell of a forgery.
It happens pretty frequently, it just doesn't get caught on video that often. I've been in an aircraft that was struck by lightning, and it was pretty much a non-event. There was some minor damage to communications systems, and it really ticked off the FSUs that the flight deck uses for controlling radios and navigational equipment. Aircraft suffer far worse damage from hitting a 30 gram bird than they do a lightning strike generally speaking.
Airplanes are pretty decent faraday cages, so serious damage from lightning strikes is uncommon. Pretty much the same effect you get when a car is hit by lightning.

I watched a show on St Elmo's fire today but they never showed real footage of it just CG garbage. It looks alot like the cloud-discharges from my VDG. Thanks for the vid.

we had a flybe plane get hit twice a while back, and it had to turn back and make an emergency landing. That bolt blew a 2" hole in the titanium alloy radar dome (!) and did some other damage on the ground.

I don't like to be seen believing anything I see on Fox, but I don't see any reason to think it's faked. Planes get hit frequently; sooner or later one was going to get caught on video. I wonder why HFsstc-Freak thinks it's fake?

Nice video! There is no reason to believe its fake. The Air Force has deliberately flown aircraft in to lightning storms before now, just so see what effect it has! I remember seeing a video from inside the cockpit of a fighter jet, where lightning hits the metal straps on the cockpit window.
