Awhile back after I had made the skori coil I was running with 24v from an atx ps, kept at a certain freq, I could use the +12 and -12 to make 24v ps, but then the blue smoke started rolling out of the case...Found that both the buz11 primary fets where toast, replaced them and now I get teh primary buzzing, and the connection wire, the one that connects the pcb to the primary gets real hot real fast enough to melt the insulation. I've tried to use thicker wire for the primary, more turns, and the only thing it changes is the intensity of the buzzing. I can't figure out why its not working, so I ask you guys the more knowledgable people, what it might be.

Is the TC itself humming or the ATX supply? What kind of hum is it, mains hum or harsh? Does the TC/ PSU still work correctly?

My scratch built smps had a failure once, and after that the transformer started buzzing at low duty cycles. Nothing seems damaged and everything is working properly, so I haven't bothered looking for the problem.

ooops I forgot to mention that I switched from the atx ps to a 24v 7amp ps, the changes with the frequency adjust of the 555, so if I increase the freq of 555 the hum of the primary gets a higher pitch, if I lower it the pitch lowers and souds more like a mains hum, and yes its the primary, cuz I could feel the wire vibrating ever so slightly.

Well that's just the interrupter doing it's job, maybe it wasn't working before. The primary wire heating is probably caused by the higher input power. Try it at 12V again and see if the primary stops heating. Is the TC working otherwise, streamers, etc?

Nope, no streamers, and the secondary is fine.

So then it's not oscillating. I don't know much about the circuit but for sure check gate waveforms.

Im going to assume it slipped your mind to include a schematic or a link to some sort of documentation of this "Skori coil".

Yes steve it did kinda slip my mind, but since there was already a thread about the circuit, but I'll post a link for faster reference.http://skory.gylcomp.hu/tesla/ mini_tesla2.html

Corrected link -> Link2

Have you tested it from 12V again, it might latch up for some reason at higher voltages. I assume you've already checked every semiconductor for failure? Other than that I don't know what to suggest. The fact that it worked but failed after applying a higher input voltage suggests that it can't take more power, at least not without adjusting the coupling or some other part of the circuit.
