Had email and phone conversation with James Colmer who is the producer of a sci-fi film involving a UFO and Tesla coils. Not yet in preproduction. Will be filmed in South Australia on a $20 million budget.
Site is here for the company and for the film here

Will you be offering your special effects services? Maybe you will make it into the DVD special features.

*edit* After seeing some more info, maybe you wouldn't want to be associated with them. Seems a little amazing1-ish

I doubt that they could use a real TC anywhere as I had discussed. Filming real sparks against a black screen (as opposed to a blue screen) to let them play with the CG effects is possible though.
As I explained, you don't neccessarily need authentic sparks to fit with a story about new/strange technologies even if Tesla based but "fake" sparks are pretty easy to spot.
The fractal/chaotic/branching nature is perhaps a bit difficult to reproduce well bt there are companies that do these effects.

Come on now. They don't use "real" special effects anymore. CGI is cheaper, more reliable, and much more flexible. (Even though it looks like shit most of the time)
