Interest in DRSSTC IGBT bulk buy?

I've been looking for some suitable IGBTs for a medium-size DRSSTC for a while now. The good old HGT1N40N60A4Ds seem to work good for most people, but they are quite expensive. I've been watching eBay(.com, .co.uk, .de and eBay stores) for some time too, and there are not many usable IGBTs there, either they have a too low Icm, no built in antiparallel diode, too high delay times or they are too expensive.

Today I checked what digikey had to offer, and I found some very attractive IGBTs at very good prices. The one that seemed the most interesting was the HGTG20N60A4D Link2 . With a voltage rating of 600V, a current rating of 70A at 25degC, a pulsed current rating of 280A, built in antiparallel diode and a price of only $3.22 in quantities of 100, it seems like a good candidate for the job. The delay times are not too bad either, better than the HGT1N40N60A4D for example.

If anyone notices anything that would make these IGBTs unsuitable for DRSSTC duty, please tell, as it would be too bad buying a lot of useless (for DRSSTC duty at least) IGBTs.

The price for single quantities is a bit higher (5.18$), so I thought it would be nice to arrange a group buy if anyone else is interested. I'm in for at least 40.

This thread is just to check if there is enough interest to warrant a group buy. For this reason, I was unsure if I should put it in Sale/Trade or Tesla Coils, but I decided to place it here. PM me if you disagree, and I'll consider moving it.

I might be interested in 100 or so.

Great, then we're already at 150 (I'll go for 50 at least). Maybe we'll make the 250 mark, making them even cheaper (3.06USD). I might even consider buying 100 myself, if we can make the total 250.

I've compared it to the IGBTs listed under DRSSTC on the HvWiki, here are the numbers:

IRG4PC50UD:
Lower peak current (220A vs. 280A), over three times as expensive on Digikey. About twice as slow. (The IRG4PC50UD is cheaper from Arrow than from DigiKey according to HvWiki, but I didn't manage to find a price from Arrow, so I used the DigiKey price for the comparison)

HGT1N40N60A4D (classical miniblock 40N60):
Slightly higher peak current (300A vs. 280A). Over seven times as expensive on Mouser (the only place where I could find a price on this IGBT). About 1.5 times as slow.

FGA40N60UFD:
Much lower peak current (160A vs 280A). Just over two thirds of the price on DigiKey. Almost three times as slow (this IGBT is Ultrafast according to Fairchild)

FGB30N6S2D:
MUCH lower peak current (108A vs. 280A, this doesn't sound like a very usable IGBT for DRSSTCs). Slightly cheaper on Digikey. Slightly faster. This IGBT would probably be very usable, if it weren't for the very low peak current handling.

HGTG40N60A4:
Slightly higher peak current (300A vs. 280A). Over twice as expensive on Digikey. About 1.5 times as slow. No co-packed diode.

So all in all, this seems like a very good transistor indeed.

Yikes guys. Just wondering, what would you need 100 of these igbt's for?

For that price you could probably ebay for a fullbridge of cm600's, caps and all other main parts for a monster DRSSTC, maybe a reserve bridge or two if you are lucky.

Hey if you can take paypal and want to ship abroad count me in for 15 pieces. I would take 50-100 but stupid customs wont let it go in such quanity if not from registered company angry

I want to make a couple of coils, have some spares, and still be able to sell some to other coilers in the future. And a couple of extras for other projects.

I already have CM600s for more than a few fullbridges.

Anders, so you would have to send personally transistors to others? If yes, how much I would have to pay for shipping to Poland and a part of shipping cost to you?

Yes Tonic, that is the plan. How many are you interested in?

Anders,

some of those other igbt's might be cheaper on other websites.
You can try Link2 or Link2

I recently have been using STGW40NC60WD which cost $3.28 in quantities of 30.
They don't have a pulse rating on the sheet unless turn-off SOA minimum current means pulsed current rating but anyhow they work quite good.

Marko,

the reason I need 100's of Igbt's is because I had 35 bridge boards made.
