Autoignition temperature for hydrogen is 571 deg C, I would expect dull orange to be warm enough.

update: I have not got any resistive wire, but i found that a ordinary pen spring with a piece of pencil lead stuffed in the middle work well. The spring gets bright orange, and the lead piece gets dull orange, i think the lead is taking some of the heat so the spring wont melt apart. The lead also hels keep the springs form. Will try in gun soon.
