Hi all... I just took apart a microwave and wanted to know what I should do with the parts... I am mostly not sure what to do with the magnetron... is there anything I can do with this thats at least a little safe? (I have worked with huge caps in coilgun Im mostly worried about the microwaves)

I pull the magnetron apart and play with the magnets (still not disproved Ernshaw, even with an array of 12 of the blighters). That's safe until you nip your finger between two, or drop one and get a chip of ferrite in your eye.
If you want to be less safe, I've seen a video of someone powering a naked magnetron up, and warming their hands in front of it, they reckoned that a minimum of 1m between magnetron and corneas would be safe. Rather them than me.

I heard about home heating based on microwaves... You should feel warm, despite your house is cold like ice... Maybe effective but maybe you could end up like this guy...
Next possibility is use it for building a sulphur bulb which should be the most effective way of visible light production. I'll try to find a link later...
I also saw home made wood mushrooms-mold-worms killer based on magnetron

You could toss out the magnetron. There is a large iron core transformer in there. remove it. If you put two in series they work great for tesla coil. Alone, use the capacitor and diode in there as a doubler and you have about 4-5kv. The transformers are great for electric fences however, the can deliver about 300ma which is completely lethal.

Definately save the magnets from the magnetron. If you're going to throw it away this will prevent someone from playing with it and hurting themselves.
And building your own electric fence 'defense network' is illegal.

"The transformers are great for electric fences however, the can deliver about 300ma which is completely lethal." LOL I don't know how well that will go over with everyone in the neighborhood.

I think you should keep advice like that for yoursefl! Remember that most people are stupid and can take you seriously. Microwave transformer is not a toy and I would never recommend to leave the HV output exposed to the outher world - or even to connect it to the fence! There are much better devices for an electric fences which make the job and are more or less harmless (like ignition coils).

Mates I think you need to calm down, I realise the majority of people are stupid, but that doesn't make me responsible for their safety. That said I wasn't the one who suggested hooking up a MOT to a fence, infact I said it wasn't a good idea, even if it was in a slightly sarcastic manner. Then you go on to say that he should hook up an iggy to the fence? I doubt that is a good idea either and could get him into trouble. But this topic isn't about electric fences it's about what he could use the parts for, so no don't use the MOT to build a fence.
