I have been working towards a Tesla Xmas tree project. Only 3 weeks before it has to be ready. I had attempted to make a stylised star but it looked decidedly floral rather than astronomical so I have scrapped that technique. I think I have the idea of how to proceed now. I would really like it to be 20 feet plus tall. This will be a 15 - 20 foot green branched tree with a 5 foot gold 5 pointed star on top made of sparks. I will be in the photo and also operating it. I have had a number of designs that I have contemplated but the one I am settling on relies on the KISS principle - well relatively. Should be easier than the Red Alert setup. I think this is now possible but there are a few structural problems to sort out. Despite the weight a rigid structure will probably be needed. I need to get some green acrylic for the green filter. Here is an early experiment of a less than full scale setup. I am hopeful of a good result now. (Wasn't so sure before but still lots of planning/testing and fiddly details etc to come.

Maybe somebody suggested it already before, but I have personal experience with putting plants on the top load. Some of them made very nice streamers from the tips of the leaves and it looked like very nice X-mass tree. I just tried to repeat it now with some home plants but this time it did not work well (my coil is too strong for such a small mass), but sending the pictures anyway…
Have you ever tried to put a small tree (or branch) on your top-load...(BTW:The tissue of the plant must be penetrated with some piece of wire which is in contact with the topload)
Here is a picture of what I mean, but as I said I had much nicer some time ago (I did not take any pictures that time unfortunately)

The problem is that it is difficult to make the streamers go in the right place. Also any organic matter tends to burn immediately if near the streamers. I have a number of shots of my block of wood counterweight burning. I think I have things planned so I can start testing some things this weekend. TDU

My TC output down a wire touched the grass during the Red Alert shooting and there were instant flames which the kids thought were cool. I can't do a Burning man in my yard in bushfire season
Hopefully some prelim pics on the weekend of further testing.

Some further work with a green filter. Here generating a 6 foot tall "tree". Needs to be 3 times the size. I have been sorting out some saturation and f-stop issues to reduce spark saturation. TDU

Haha, now that is really cool. I thought you were just going to use an actual Christmas tree and hook it up to your topload, not make sparks in the shape of a tree...

jeah, that looks nice!!! My attemps to make tesla-Xmas-fotos were interrupted when I got a hit into the primary... The electronic seems to be fine. But I am on it and will post pictures, too! =)
