After reading Part Scavenger's post in the laser printer thread, I decided to go down to my local recycling centre in the hope of scoring some computer stuff to make a server / mess about with!

Anyway, I felt really stupid at first, and expected them to just laugh and tell me to go away, but no! The bloke was like 'yeah yeah mate, just help yourself, it's all cheap'

So within 5 minutes I had grabbed a ladder and was climbing the racks and having fun, not caring how I looked cheesey Here's what I scored for the sum of £25 :

3 towers (at least PIIs)
2 inkjet printers - one of which has a NEW SEALED cartridge with it suprised
An immaculate 17" monitor
A few wall warts for projects

I'll be going back there monthly until I get kicked out the house, they had a stack of about 200 TVs as well cheesey

Hey, nice! My dad's about to run me out of the house, be careful! cheesey I've got seven working TV's I've rescued off the side of the road and fixed along with at least 5 comp monitors. I've gotten to the point where I just take them apart when I need something. I've got 4 working printers and several others that don't. 1700W microwave(cap was shorted)... Anyway, my dad told me I can't bring home any more crap until I get this stuff out of the way. I had to pass up two microwaves yesterday... frown

I've got one of those Aptiva towers. I't the best box I've ever seen for switch-em-out-all-the-time people like me. It has a lock on the back and the whole cover just slips off. And it supports all the motherboards I have put in it so far, and it even has a carrying handle and feet. The orginal processor was like PII 233Mhz I think. I've got a PIII 1.4Ghz in it now.

And here I thought I was the only one who picked up stuff fromt eh side of the road. I have 8 mots all from "garbage" microwaves. I also have 2 PII towers that were free, one is a halfass server the other is a chat/browser terminal to free up the gameing computer.

I do the same thing, i love driving around in my jeep without doors cuz i can jump out and get the stuff before some crazy guy come outta his house.

The poor guys at the recycling center know me too well cheesey

Ive also found that landlords will give you a lot of stuff if you ask, with people leaveing stuff curbside that cant be trashed, they are eager to not have to pay to bring it to the dump.

I commandeered part of the second floor of the barn for my ham shack and it has since been filled up with "found" stuff. 8 X 10 feet and as you can see all filled up. mistrust
