They forget to add,
Microsoft OneCare firewalls your safe LAN clients from each other, but leaves the internet wide open.

Vista is Windows ME2.

The new MacOS is no prize either, but not even close to that bad.

At an additional $800+ per new workstation, simply retraining most staff for Linux was cheaper.
Ubuntu now has better hardware support most of the time -- and blazing fast 3D FX to compare.

No more OpenGL for Windows users. :/

That video reminded me of this one.

Im actually surprised at all the negative feedback vista seems to be getting. The only major problem Ive seen is that WGA seems to go bad on some customers OEM machines(i work as a tech in my spare time and see some of this). That and the fact that microsoft likes to charge in upwards of $200 for a copy. I actually use vista and i like the improved interface with alpha transparency.

Well the reason why I will never be using Vista (I use XP now) is because it uses a lot of system resources (even when "idle") and is noticably worse performance-wise than XP.

To me, the alpha blending and 3d compositing just make it look like someone threw XP in a swimming pool. ;^)

It all strikes me as a huge waste of resources, but I guess Microsoft had to do it because Mac OS X and Linux had it. My boss likes to impress people with his Macbook by doing the Parallels Desktop twirly cube thing with an XP desktop on one face and OSX on the other. He actually has me wanting one. :(

AFAIK, most of the driver horror stories are from the 64-bit version of Vista. I've seen Athlon 64s shipped with 32-bit Vista for this reason, but at least they don't con the customer even further by loading them with memory over 4GB that they can't access...

I actually have to agree on the resource usage issue, i have 2 gigs of ram and i still see slowdowns at times. As for the 3d windows, i really see no point there and i don't use them.

I absolutely cannot stand bloat. I want my programs to look cool and do cool stuff but not at the expense of doing the job they're meant to do.

I run FreeBSD with Hackedbox as my X window manager. What I like is that I can have everything I want and nothing I don't want (like a million places to put icons), while still looking good.

Best of all, there's only ever as much stuff on my screen as I need. When I'm doing nothing, there is nothing on my screen but my wallpaper. On the other hand, Windows works on an, "out of sight, out of mind," principle. If you don't have all the special features in your face, how would you know you've got your several hundred $ worth?
