Hey just bought this multiplier off of ebay. I plan on using it with a hv coil and light dimmer setup for a lifter. I don't see many lifter projects on here?

When building, try to add some sort of plastic insulation for the corona wire stands!
Alot of people complain of their lifter catching fire, I added some shrink wrap on the wooden posts and it prevented it quite well.

There are some lifter threads in the archives. Remember to secure the lifter to the table with a wire of some sort so it does not hit anyone in case it works very well. Just as important is to watch out for ozone, some lifters generate a lot of ozone. Often you don't notice it until you have had enough and you can get pretty sick.

My lifter page is here. I have one of the few museum lifters and there are alot of challenges keeping that one going.

Naudins site is a comprehensive one but flawed by a lot of pseudoscience so you have to be careful what you believe or quote from there.

Don't use shrink as the weight may tip the balance between working or not.

Another importaint thing is to add some small feet so it isnt electrostatically attracted to your launch surface. Otherwise it may requite some prying with a non conductive ruler to get it up.

Normal dimmers are designed for mainly resistive loads so it is not a good idea to substitute. Dimmers for halogen lamps are made to drive transformers/switch mode supplies for low voltage halogen lamps.

It may or may not work, depending on the construction and power level.

success, though it only hovers about 3/4 of an inch. I decided to use a 28 kv computer monitor. the only thing is I have to start the lifter with the corona wire up high, once it is on I inch it down with a insulated stick. If I don't do it this way it pulls to many amps and the computers current limiter kicks in and shuts it off. I will probably work on a better power supply not bad for first try though. I am using 30 AWG for the corona wire how small can I go?

The smaller the better, until it breaks as you handle it or under lifting load. Smaller = less weight and more field strength / corona.
