I'm not sure it is plain CW, here is another one which gives 450KV and is powered straight from 220V AC. That would mean CW with more than 2000 stages!

Those are beautiful power supplies. Some of the ones ive seen in person (which are similar to those pictured) are driven from air-core resonant transformers (CW SSTCs!). They run around 10kVAC usually i think, and probably at >100khz.
