I need a 12 volt input device that when connected to a grounded spark plug will arc the gap with a continuous spark. Preferably already made, but if I have to build it that is ok. I need to produce about 50 a month. I hope it is not against forum rules to make this request for help. Can anyone point me in the right direction.

Thanks

50 a month? What are you building? Who are you selling to?

Please be more specific.

I doubt that you can maintain a continuous spark using battery power
I assume that you mean many sparks per second.

If you are going into volume production you need to be a little more specific.
e.g.
- Minimum number of sparks per second
- Minimum acceptable spark gap distance
- Pressure of spark gap gas
- Ideally minimum spark energy acceptable
- Duty of device e.g. 10 sec/min, continuous for 5min. etc.

This will allow for a reliable and economical design.

Why not? You can mantain any kind of spark you want with enough power ;)

I still don't understand why we're doing your procurement and design for you -- is this so you can capitalize by reselling them? Nothing wrong with that -- but what're they for? Can you fill in some of Sulaiman's specifications?

Yes, this site is intended as a resource for hobbyists, and people with commercial design questions should remember that everything published here goes under the Creative Commons license.

Some of the people here are experienced EEs and will let you hire them as consultants outwith 4hv, but it will cost you suprised

If I was in a hurry to make such a device, I'd go to my local McGuyver supplies store and buy a small neon sign transformer and a small power inverter of the kind used for running 120V devices in your car. A far more elegant, cheaper, and compact design could probably be made with a flyback transformer, or a modified electronic NST.

For a spark plug, I don't believe he needs anything bigger than a CCFL or laser printer/copier HV supplies. Making the transformer is biggest problem, although for mass production somebody can do it for you.
