These capacitors have all come from 6.6kV thruster drive systems. The FPSO (Floating Production, Storage & Offload) I work on had a major refit on the Tyne last year before heading out for another 15years on a new field. The installation owners decided they wanted to renew all the capacitors on all three units as a precautionary measure. The ABB specialist who fitted the replacement units couldn't see anything fundamentally wrong with the units he was replacing.
I will go and take some pictures shortly but basically there are a total of 5 different capacitor types available:-
1. 1000uF +/- 10% 2800V manufactured by LCC, St.Apollinaire, France. These are large, oil filled jobbies and weigh 46kgs a piece. In total there could be 42off these. They are 34 x 15 x 70cm
2. 15uF +/- 10% 3100VDC, same manufacturer and again oil filled. In total there will be 24off these. These are 14.5 x 6 x 23cm
3. 470uF/ 750V, manufactured by Epcos and again oil filled (I believe). There are 16 off these. These are 12cm round x 32cm high.
4. 4uF/ 1300-2000VDC, manufactured by LCC again. These are ‘solid’ types. There are about 40off these. These are 9cm in diameter and 6cm high
5. 0.68uF/ 3100VDC, electrolytic type, manufactured by Epcos. There would be 6 of these. These are 6cm in diameter and 13cm high.
If anybody is interested then please drop me a line.
