Yes I'm in dire need of advice what kind of furniture I should buy next...
To be serius I'm talking about my table where I do all my hobby stuff (picture: ). I hate it, its WAY too small and I need a new one. I was thinking about buying somekind of plywood or something and making my own table. Well the thing is that using regular plywood would make the thing butt ugly. Plywood plated with aluminum sheet would be very robust but would suck for electronics projects (dont want a large groundplane plus the problems with insulating everything from it).
Then theres this "waterplywood" (heres a pretty poor pic, its the dark plywood on the right: ) (anyway thats what its called in here) which is dark brown, almost black water resistant plywood, and has very smooth (even a bit shiny) surface. It seems pretty ok except its not that pretty either and I think the surface can get dented pretty easily. Any other ideas for a table/tabletop material ?
One design that I came up with for my dorm room (a hundred years ago) was to cut out the center of a sheet of plywood so it was in a "U" shape, then make the sides and posts with 2"x4" lumber and cut a sheet of that shiny "white masonite" board glued on top.

Dude, get some plastic to put on it. You start with plywood, then just use contact cement to stick down some nice heat resistant laminate countertop material.

I'm about to sort my bench out too. A few years ago I bought a length of white(ish) kitchen worktop and made a bench out of that. I'm going to do the same thing in my room next, with a shelf above it for gear.
