im not sure how many volts (a long time ago i measured 110v, but im not sure if its right). i got the inverter from a hobby shop. it was from a EL rope light kit IIRC. im sure u could get one from a pc mod store like this:

if u look closely u can see the wire i soldered to the cage

110V isnt closely enough to penetrate the fur, you need few kilovolts at low current to amke it work propertly.

The only passive (and therefore realy impressive) solution I have seen is actually very simple:

The birdfeeder is hanging in the air supported by a stick. On this stick there are lots of plastik "donuts" with ball bearings, so they will spin if the squirrel tries to go that way. They tend to give up after 30 minutes, and none have ever reached the feeder.

Please realize that by just energizing the cage to some voltage, you are not going to do anything to the squirrel, especially if the cage is hanging in the air.

You need to provide a return path for the voltage and this is much easier said than done.

did u look at the latest pics? there's an aluminum ring aound the green basin, that is the return path. yeah the squirrels sit on the ring and it doesn't do anything (or hang on the cage) but once they touch the other side, they feel it and run. the birds aren't affected because they cant touch both at the same time

its not obvious from the photos that you have anything connected to the lower rim of your basin.

We had a problem with a squirrel chewing on a pot at our house. I decided to put hot sauce on it and he got the message real quick. I don't know how birds like hot sauce, but maybe you could put something that only the squirrel can get to/would want and spike it? Otherwise, I'd go with the pressure sensitive alarm. We have some bug zappers around our house and I happen to know what happens to small things around electricty(even if this is less, still).

If I am not mistaken birds eat hot chilis without problems. Seems like a clever idea by the chili to ensure it is not eaten by some lazy land animal that will deposit the seeds at the root of the plant they came from.
