There are many reason for photon drag being quite unlikely, like observable time dilation in objects with large red shift. Even Fred Hoyle did not manage to keep that idea from falling apart.

When the choice is between the personal incredulence argument and evidence then evidence wins every time.

Observable time dilation...?

Sounds very intriguing indeed, but once again we are placing far too much importance on that one incredibly fallible tool, our eyes. If there appears to be time dilation then yes, that does suggest evidence against photon drag, but that is it, nothing more.

Now please don't stomp on me for what I am about to suggest. What if it were possible for those photons to not only lose energy in the form of wavelength, but also in the form of time? What I mean is, perhaps what we are observing is a far more complete form of energy loss that is not limited to wavelength. It is completely feasible that we might actually be observing photons that are slowing down, but because of our limited understanding of how photons travel, they can't actually slow down, they just appear to spread out in the form of a longer wavelength, or red shift. If that were found to be the case, the very concept of universal acceleration would go straight into the garbage can. It is a completely valid and feasible explanation. We understand so little about the fabric of space.

I think perhaps the concept of photon drag is far too easy for our minds to comprehend compared to dark matter/energy. Think about it, "dark matter" or "dark energy"? Isn't that just a very complicated way of saying, "We don't have any idea what is going on to explain what we are observing."

I admit I would love for the very concept of "dark physics" to be disproven and replaced by more logical and sensible concepts, but that doesn't mean it's going to happen. Dark physics may or may not stand the test of time, and it's not for me to decide.

Another "observation" that bugs the hell out of me is why dark matter only seems to be found in the outreaches of the universe, and not right here in our laps. After all, it is supposed to account for some 90% of what is observed in the cosmos right? So why has it kept clear of our precious solar system? I know the explanation for why it is not right in front of us is addressed in some more modern theories, but I don't remember at the moment what that explanation is, so please excuse me and feel free to fill it in if anyone here remembers.

I don't mind the topic at all, I don't even care which theory comes out in the end. Like I stated earlier, I am not trying to be competitive here, I guess more of a devil's advocate since I like the simplicity of space drag.
