Okay years back I was seeing this forum found it again and now want to build a tc now. I have some bassic tc knowledge but am lost. I am looking for a very easy and bassic website for a small tc that could creat arks but nothing big. So I need a nst so that tells the size of the tc but could you give me a site that uses a ignition coil tc instead because I could get a few of them easy. Well any ways Thanks, Joshua Martin

If you wan't to make a tesla coil with a flyback you can't use the older style AC ones, unless you rectify it. You need to use the modern DC ones or rectify your old AC one. I forget where it is but someone on this forum made a really nice tesla coil from a new flyback (if i remember right), and housed in a wooden box it looked damn good. So just look around because there is plenty of examples and help out there.

Okay just a day ago I had a modern one but could only get 5 mm arks, I used the old board and the resistors got really hot but I got mad about the thing not putting much out even after I removed the diode,then I tossed it. I am thinking about a ignition coil tc but I want to use a circuit that uses a relay to drive it along with a capaciter could someone point me in the right direction ? I think I could use an ignition coil in the place of a flyback then I would just need to pop open a microwave then remove the diodes to rectifie the power source. Thanks for the help/tips

I would really steer away from a relay- a single mosfet would do much better in my opinion, as you don't have to worry about contact wear- and if designed properly, it would be much more reliable/predictable. Even a 555 driving a single mosfet would be an improvement over a relay. Just know that the primary of an Ignition coil has a very low resistance, so peak currents are gonna be pretty high, higher than many relays would like to see.
