I would like to use FETs in the Mazzilli driver configuration, just because I would not want be bothered to wind high inductance secondaries (low res freq). The problem is still the low voltage capability of the usual FETs found in stores. I remember that I found in a book the schema of a phase controlled rectifyer. The current way is jut through the tyristor - load - diode, so I simply had a dream about a posible setup made with a single IGBT / FET and an ultrafast diode chain to make one big "controlled comutable element" with higher reverse voltage capability. Something like that:

So........would it work this approach for a mains fed Mazzilli driver, allowing us to short out the 4 x input voltage rule? With a 500 V FET and a 600 V diode I would have a 1100 V element.

I am not an EE guy, so I have to ask before make some home fire.....
