I'm starting assembly and collection of parts for a new SSTC. Its going to be completely modular, with separate boards for the gate driver, PLL or 74HC14, Low voltage power supply, Overcurrent (In case I want to upgrade to a DR model). However, I'm wondering which people prefer- I live in the US, so line voltage is ~120VAC- should I do a voltage doubled half bridge (330VDC on a half bridge) or rectified and filtered (170VDC) on a full bridge? I know this is quite subjective, but I'm all ears on your reasons for either one!

I'd say it depends on the size of the coil. With small coil I usually prefer a half-bridge, if only to keep the parts count and the complexity down. For a big coil however, I would probably use a voltage doubler AND a full bridge, more voltage = longer sparks

Higher voltage means less current for a given power level, and therefore less loss and less heat.
Keep in mind that lower voltage MOSFETs often have far lower Rds, so the power dissipation is often the same for a given power level. But, it depends on how much $$ you spend on the silicon.

I will redesign my full bridge board that uses 4UCC3732x's then as well as the actual mosfet board, and find some suitable capacitors and diodes for the doubler. This should (theoretically) lower the number of mosfets that I lose, too.
On second thought, I'll just use 2 of the UCC's on the board, and keep that board in case i want to upgrade to full bridge and DR topology eventually.

There- Here is the new plan for a Half Bridge with a voltage doubler using 600V 30A diodes (which will be on a heatsink) and 2460uf per "leg." The Mosfets will be on a terminal strip, with leads bent 90 degrees so the mosfets are oriented vertically. 15V zener diodes will be across the mosfets too, I'm just going to put them where i can fit them after I build it

I like your simple H-bridge. Very low impedance. I would put bleeder resistors on your doubler caps to equalize them and to discharge them when not in use.
