The negative bias can come from a 1.5V battery if you want it right away. Otherwise you need to design a power supply with both + and - supply built in.
Also, since the output from the comparator is a square wave, it will be distorted to the max. Thats why its best to limit it to one tone or note at a time (mono-phonic) and even still it sounds like a square wave synth (moog).
I realized that I made my TI 89 calculator play music and what I did was make the I/O port modulate the signal at the frequency of the music but basically it too played square waves and I still have the music I made fore it ill post them soon because they sounded very nice as square wave music the output was though 16 KHz so the tesla coil should have no problem producing even better sound. I will give it a try.

You can always try the kiss approach, just hook up a headphone amplifier to the interrupter input (don't forget to put a current limiting resistor in there) and feed it a constant signal by using a aggressive automatic gain controller, it will sound like this: ]1184764395_639_FT28344_low_powerdrsstc.avi[/file]
