Here's an interesting thesis paper on Pulsed Linear Induction Motor by a student in South Africa. Click the PDF file icon for a 200+ page detailed write-up on PLIM theory and construction .
This PLIM uses ac capacitors and minimizes net resistance to get the most oscillation possible. No anti-parallel diodes involved. The article has loads of design and analysis details; very useful for anyone thinking about building their own.
Why don't we use AC capacitors more often? They would eliminate the pulse-lengthening anti-parallel diodes.
Cheers, Barry

lytic uses chemicals to create the thin dielectric layer, thats what give them the high energy density.
Also, its much easer to get switches at those kinda voltage. (few hundres to a kilo something)
