Hey all, anyone know a rough price I might expect to pay for a NOS 304TL tube with a radiator on the anode and sockets, etc? I found 5 of them locally, but was told $130 per tube, whereas I see them on ebay, minus the anode heatsink and sockets for under $10 for the same Sylvania tube.
Does anyone here have experience purchasing these tubes? What would be a reasonable counter offer on the local tubes? I was thinking $20-30 each? I know that's a big step down from $130, and I don't want to seem disrespectful....but at the same time I just don't know if the guy understands the modern value of old tubes.... or if I do?

Is there some reason you want a 304? Id strongly suggest another tube as these are particularly fragile (all of them are really old). I went through a handful of them when i had a VTTC based around them. They often broke in shipping. I broke a few myself from mild mechanical vibrations.

I can get the sockets for $5 each-nice heavy ceramic bases w/ phosphorus bronze contacts.
The main reason I wanted a 304TL is because they look so dang cool.
...
I should just get a few of my current coils done before I start another one :P I just find winding secondaries to be so relaxing ... and soldering to be tedious.
Anyways.... these are pretty old (1963 on the box) and they're not sealed in their boxes... open box, but new old stock. 2 of them are removed from unused equipment... but it's still old.
I think I'll skip it for now. I can get 833's no problem for like $25.

...a little late in replying (as usual), but when I was at the Mike & Key ARC hamfest in Puyallup, WA in Feburary (or was it March?), I saw several folks selling 304TL's and 304TH's NIB. Everybody was asking > $100. I was pretty surprised. They seem like they'd be pretty nice for VTTCs given their higher-than-average anode voltage rating, but I couldn't see myself paying $100 for one. No siree!!
