do you know if it would be possible to get a pcmcia tv tuner so that I could play my xbox360 on my laptop's 17" LCD?
I played my 360 over a VGA cable to my desktop LCD and it looked sick at 1280x1024. Do you happen to know if I could do the same with a pcmcia tv card with std components? or vga input pcmcia card? What setup would work???
My Dell 19" LCD died, and I am required to play my xbox on our old 36" std tv.
What would you recommend for a price-saving display capable of at least 1280x720
I have an HD VGA cable... but I don't even know if that would be "HD" on a non-hd complaint LCD or if it's just the resolution that matters? I'm quite new to HD....I just know that playing my xbox on my 19" LCD via it's vga cable was sick graphics...HD or not. Maybe something from newegg.
Any thoughts?
Thanks, John.
and then get a std component to hdmi converter
That might work..... I just don't have enough money for an LCD if over 200 bucks.

HD means just that, high definition. There is no standard 'hd' resolution, just about anything over 720x480 (480i) is considered HD.
It would work to use a capture card that had component in, (if they finally got component to work at a decent resolution on the 360), although I would be weary that the card might not be capable of streaming the full 720p stream (that would be 1280x720) as that is about 700mb/s of transfer, almost 3gb/s for a 1080p stream.
In general, the only thing the matters is resolution, but beware many manufactures pull tricks with it. A LCD marked 1080i is actually a 720p LCD. The reason for this is that when we used CRT tubes manufactures couldn't scan the beam fast enough, so the decided to scan the odd lines on one refresh, and then the even lines on the next. When we switched over to the new styles (plasma, lcd, dlp, etc) they can't do that anymore (since each pixel has its own device) so they downscale the video coming in so that you get the even/odd lines on the same physical rows. You are still showing all of the information, but it is jumping up/down 1/2pixle all of the time (which is usually compensated for in software), but would be better off just playing the native 720p.
