Just this last weekend i went to a sci-fi convention to run my coil for the spectators. Ive been running an ATmel uC for the interrupter, on which i threw together a few musical sequences just to test the sounds that could be produced. Anyway, people already got video of the event on various websites:

This was my DRSSTC2 coil running >>5kW when i was really pushing it. It all worked out perfectly. In case you are wondering, i can control the tempo and octave of the sequence on the fly. Next step is for 2 coils, using 2 channel midi from laptop (soon to be acquired). Should be pretty fun... If anyone has suggestions for music, I'm interested in hearing them. They should not require more than 2 overlapping tones, since that is my limit.

I also did some long pulse tests of the system, up to 6mS. I will try to get some pictures from people who were there taking them. But anyway, 8 foot "SSTC" sparks are pretty amazing to watch... very lightning-like (much more so than normal TC operation). I couldnt get past about 50% input voltage without tripping the 1500A limit hard.

Very cool Steve! I have GOT to do this with mine sometime.... It's nice to see that uC working well, do you have any video of the long pulses?

Best musical coil video I've ever seen. Totally awesome. The Super Mario underworld theme with those big, fat streamers was especially nice. The Tetris was cool too, although I admit I preferred the slower parts where the correlation between streamers and notes was especially obvious.

Can't wait to see the two-coil setup!

Aaron, N7OE

I was always rather fond of the "Blake Stone" theme. It would sound awesome on the DRSSTC! I'll get you a sound clip.

Please excuse the double post, I can't upload anything without it. PS, Steve, I just spent 2hrs downloading the movie on dial-up TOTALLY worth it! LOL @ the lady dancing in the background.

Here's the BS_AOG theme, not as cool as I remember, but still cool.
The second is "Jungle", the theme from like the second level, much cooler.
And then the Duke Nukem theme, everybody will know this one. It's got way too many layers, but maybe you can delete some. I had to zip them all, cause we can't upload *.mid files.

This is a good place to find old game MIDI files. Link2

EDIT: So it dumped my zip file... X| Here's a link on my server. Link2

Steve,

That was simply breathtaking! I too am very excited and anxious to take a look at the long pulse footage/pics. I really enjoyed the pictures you have on your site of running long pulse on your other DRSSTC (was it your "1" model?) in your room. I even am using one for my background photo on one of my PC's.

If your not too keen on clarity and you just want one to play the music its ultra simple, when I had the small 2" coil in proto board form it could play songs pretty nicely, for just using a 2n3906 amplifier circuit connected to the enable pin of a ucc.
