UK shoppers, ASDA now have some 200mm diameter stainless steel (nearly) spheres, as garden ornaments, for £8. They have a flat some 50mm diameter as a base so they can stand on a flat surface without rolling. Close inspection reveals surface imperfections around the equator where the weld has only been finished smoothish (but a lot smoother than you'd get with salad bowls and alli tape).
So if you want to build a mid-sized VDG (and can cut a hole into the SS), or want some collossal terminals to top off your Marx or your potential divider, then now's your chance. Excellent for pimping up any "mad scientist" display.
I doubt they would work well as a small TC topload, SS is very resistive, so eddy currents would clobber performance (unlike alli or copper which only shift frequency).
