I am done building this coil and i had killed enuff fets in the process. I went for the complete DR style because it worked better than the series-C and the series-L matching networks configurations. One of the fets die when a streamer strikes an object with significant capacitance. I think this causes the secondary to go out of tune and causes the "Q" of the primary to go high and draw a lot more current in the LC. I have never attempted a ground strike and would not risk it. I like to use SMT components for final projects because it is smaller, cheaper and the 7400 series SMT ICs are easier to find the the old through hole ICs. Plus the through hole are harder to desolder. Since the 7400 series through hole IC are rare to find now, I try to save them for prototyping only.
