Hi,
Did anyone here ever try to create cold plasma?
I found this article about a device that can create a plasma beam of up to 5cm length
Link2
The beam is cold and can safely be touched. I wonder if someone has more information about this or how to build that yourself.

Here is a picture I took from a video where the inventor demonstrates the device.

plasma is by definition superheated gas so a "cold plasma" is not plasma anymore IMO

That just isn't true.
Plasma is just an ionized gas and heating is only one way for it to become ionised.

Plasmas excited by electric current are almost always way colder than temperature they would spontaneously ionise. Flourescent lights, globes and even electric arcs are generally in this category.

I think versions of this plasma projector needed very high frequencies to operate, andn surely a supply of inert gas.
It seems that all the point is using as little as possible power for ionisation and then blowingthe gas trough to dissipate heat.

I'm not sure what do they exactly mean here by 'under-a-microsecond short high voltage pulses'.

MAybe they are refering to it as being MHz or possible even Ghz pulses, considering .0000001s or 100ns is faster then a 1us, and there by if you figure the digits comes out to be in the megahz range.

I think is he is talking about the heat quantity and not the temperature. Example, the Sun's corona has a temperature of 10E6 degrees, yet you could freeze to death in it. Or a bath tub of cold water has more head than a lit match burning at 1,000 degrees tempeature.

No. Just explaning the difference between heat and temperature. The cold plasma in the photo at the beginning of this thread is created by non-thermal methods. It means the plasma is created by electrons, not heat, from an electrical pulse so the gas is not heated to high temperatures. Google "Mounir Laroussi" will bring up his work on creating room-temperature plasma using an electrical pulse.

People have been making very cold plasmas for years now.

Actually, it goes back to the end of the 19th century. Laroussi has figured out a way to keep it cool by injecting electrons at a 1KHz rate.
